SGA UPDATE
Cori O'Donnell
A holiday dinner, charity donations to the homeless, and plans for spring semester events are just a portion of the many things Hood's SGA Executive Board has worked on so far this year.
The SGA Executive Board has only had the opportunity to meet one time this semester, but President Dana Davenport informs me that there is much underway for this spring semester. There is to be a Spring SGA election, plans to do more work on the Hood website, and as usual SGA is ready and willing to listen to the concerns of the students at Hood.
Kristin Straub, SGA Treasurer, says the SGA is looking to hold a Budget Clinic this semester for current/future presidents and treasurers of student organizations. The clinic will answer budget questions and teach participants the proper way to fill out budget forms.
Janelle Dionne, SGA Academic Affairs Chairperson tackled several issues for students the past semester. She notes that these issues include: common hour, class scheduling, and final exam scheduling. This semester Dionne and the Academic Affairs Committee will be working on the Outstanding Faculty Awards, and the Student Teacher Forum.
Doug Raftery, SGA Secretary/Chairperson of the Publicity/Traditions Committee, says that this year the Publicity/Traditions Committee has completed some very successful events. The Holiday Dinner raised money from luminary sales that went to the Cold Weather and Homeless Shelter located in downtown Frederick. In the works is Give Your Heart to Hood Day and the community's annual Easter egg hunt.
SGA President Davenport stresses that students are welcome to find out more about SGA and bring up any issues or suggestions. The contact for the SGA Executive Board is sga1@hood.edu. Additionally, all Senate meetings are open for all students to attend. Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 9:15 p.m. in the Whitaker Campus Commons on the following dates: Feb. 23, Mar. 9, Mar. 30, Apr. 13, Apr. 27.
This semester is just beginning, but the SGA Executive Board is as ambitious as ever and ready for an eventful and successful spring semester at Hood College.
