Shutter Island

The dream team of Academy Award winning director Martin Scorsese and his protégé, Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Departed," "Gangs of New York," "Aviator,") are back together to give audiences a taste of insanity in their latest motion picture, "Shutter Island."
In the film, DiCaprio is U.S. Marshall Ted Daniels who is given a new partner on his newest assignment. Daniels and fellow Marshall Chuck Aule, played by Mark Ruffalo ("Zodiac," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,") are assigned to travel to Shutter Island, the Alcatraz of mental institutions, to search for an escaped patient.
Daniels and Aule collaborate with the head of the institution Dr. Cawley, exceptionally well played by Academy Award winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley ("Ghandi,") and during their time on the island they brave a hurricane and an inmate riot, which aren't the only issues from preventing the Marshalls from leaving.
Simultaneously, Daniels creates his own personal reasons for staying that go beyond his assignment, reasons that are related to the death of his wife.
However, Daniels is unaware that his time on the island is attributing to bizarre events that are forcing Daniels to cross the fine line between mental stability and insanity, and to choose between his own agendas and realizing the real truth behind Shutter Island and his role in his presence there.
This is one of the most psychologically crafted and challenging movies ever to be released, saturated in great performances across the board, ingenious direction, and a twist in the story that will make your jaws drop. "Shutter Island," is no surprise, another masterstroke of genius from Martin Scorsese.
Loaded with an eerie and an adrenaline rushing story, with smart yet subtle creepy images, audiences will be amazed by this movie.
DiCaprio is, once again, in top form as Ted Daniels and Sir Ben Kingsley is amazing as Dr. Cawley. The two are without a doubt the best performers in the movie.
Credit must be given to Laeta Kalogridis who is responsible for writing this well crafted screenplay, about deception and how some places will never let you go due to powers out of your control, only to find out how you are deceiving yourself without knowing.
The final twist will be what audiences will mostly discuss after the viewing because it is so unexpected and extremely intelligent, it will be remembered for a long time.
Audiences will be taken for the ride of their lives, through a movie that simply delivers on all cylinders.
It is safe to say that so far this year, "Shutter Island," is the most distinguished film of the new decade.
Once again, the dream team of Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese has proven that they are the elites of the business. "Shutter Island," is a real tour-de-force to be reckoned with.
