Imagine a language that can help you express all your emotions easily and clearly. Imagine a language that is full of passion, but you can use it freely. Imagine a language that helps you get in shape. After all of this you are probably thinking to yourself "I wish that this kind of language existed, but it sounds way too good to be true." In fact, this wonderful language has existed for centuries and goes by a simple name; dance.
In the past, people have danced in order to convince rain to water their soil, and make it fertile. Today, we dance for fun and pleasure. Different nations have different dances, but most of them have something in common; bringing people together. Many national dances include holding hands and involve everyone by making a circle of all the dancers. That closed circle of people holding hands symbolizes unity, life, love and eternity.
Don't you feel happy inside after you spend few hours dancing with your friends? And there are so many dances out there that everyone can find the perfect one. Some love classical dances, some love Latin-American dances, some love modern dances, some just like to jump, but if it is what makes you happy and helps relieve the stress, just go ahead.
In the rainy days that are ahead of us, dancing is a perfect activity to do inside your own house, or residence hall. Just put nice music on, get a few friends, and start moving. If you want to pick up some nice moves or learn a specific dance, YouTube is an excellent starting source. You can find many dance lessons on the internet. In addition, Hood College will offer dance classes in the spring, including social dance, contemporary dance, and ballet. Downtown Frederick, has a few dance schools, too. There are many options if you are willing to use them. Maybe you even have a friend who is an amazing dancer that can help you with learning moves if you just ask him or her.
If you just enjoy watching others dance, you have had a few opportunities already. This semester's Spanish House activity about dances and dancing just occurred. Spanish House tenants preformed a passionate tango, relaxing rumba, joyful salsa, and entertaining cha cha. In addition, the Strong Women of Today and Tomorrow (SWTT) talent show presented a few great dancers, ranging from a unique artistic dance and hip hop dancing, to Michael Jackson-style number. If you missed these two shows, you really missed out. However, you have an opportunity to enjoy dance at the upcoming International Show (Friday, 20th November at 7pm in Hodson Auditorium). Come join, enjoy, get inspired, and start dancing!
