There are games that make a team reassess its game plan and then there are games that make a team believe in its game plan.
The first four games of the season ended up in losses for the Hood women's basketball team. The third loss was a devastating loss to Drew University. The team lost by 48 points to Drew at the Drew University Tournament with a final score 73 - 25. The following game against Keystone College was another devastating loss. The team lost by three points falling to 0-4 to begin the season.
It was time to reassess the game plan.
If the game of basketball is about bouncing, the women's basketball team had a big bounce back on Tuesday, Nov. 25 against Wilson College.
"We went into the Wilson College game knowing that Wilson was not one of the strongest teams and we were determined to beat them," says junior Jennifer Willison.
"We knew we had to pick it up," adds senior Sara Wastler. "We know the type of team we are and the type of team we can be."
After a dismal road trip in New Jersey, Willison was determined to play better.
"I came back from a bad performance at Drew and I knew Wilson was the team to run the floor on," says Willison and running the floor they did.
The women's basketball team registered 18 steals for the night with most of the steals resulting in fast break points.
The Hood women's basketball team trumped Wilson College with a final score of 88 - 31. The team bested their opponent by 57 points. Willison scored 39 points in the game. This was the game high, season high and school record for Hood College.
Captain, Sara Wastler, had the team's first triple double this season with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. The win was the perfect gravy to cover up the mushiness from the previous four losses. This was something to be thankful for during the Thanksgiving holidays.
As the team works on its transition game on the court, it is faced with playing another transition game on the sidelines. The new coach Jay Butler has coached the team for one season and he is currently working on his second season. He picked up the reigns in the beginning of the 2007 basketball season by taking the place of Tracey Kelley-Franklin.
