Keep an eye out for up and coming local director John Calvin Doyle, a hot young independent film director from The Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. Doyle has been involved in the local movie scene for the past 15 years in over 35 local and national film projects including Serial Mom. His third directorial project is The Mango, which is currently in production and expected to be looking for distributors by December.
The Mango is a suspense/drama about people who have become entangled in a web of murder and intrigue. The movie addresses the question; what risks we take, what risks we do not take and what risks we wish we had never taken.
The cast includes; Doug Tracht, also known as The Greaseman, Connie LeMoth, Heidi Emmer, Danny Evans, Jonathon Ruckman, Maria Gypsy Angelucci, Steven Kovalic, Francine Margolis, Michael Brennan with cameo performance from John Clavin Doyle and Mara Link.
Much of the production is being filmed at The Last mango bar and grill in
The Kentlands Community of Gaithersburg. Some scenes are being filmed in downtown Baltimore, in one of Mara Link's properties in North East Baltimore.
Doyle employs a stream of consciousness approach to his directing style as most of the scenes are not rehearsed before filming. This gives the film a slice of life quality
which adds to its intensity as an art film.
One of Doyle's earlier directorial debuts has earned him a controversial reputation for his use of violence and dark humor. Much like John Waters, who John Calvin Doyle has worked with on "Serial Mom," and is one of Mr. Doyle's favorite directors, Doyle embarks on a living- on- the -edge extremism.
The Falsettos, filmed exclusively in Baltimore, was a takeoff on the extremely popular HBO drama series The Sopranos. In Doyle's version, the women play the professional hit men. The screenplay was written by Michael Brennan and Danny Evans. The other recent project Mr. Doyle directed and wrote was Fishing with Tink and Earl, a comedic project about two charming, clueless West Virginia natives attempting to impart their fishing wisdom in documentary form to an unsuspecting public.
